An Instrument to Provide ICT Investment Strategies for European Public Administrations
City of Turin
The City of Turin is the main town in the Piedmont Region, a highly developed area in the North-West part of Italy.
Turin area has over 0.9 million inhabitants settled on 130,17 Km2. The metropolitan area is wider and includes over 50 smaller Municipalities with about 1.7 million inhabitants.
The local PA, and in particular the Municipality of Turin, has a strong role in the process of redesigning the town with a strong commitment in supporting the development of the digital economy.
The City of Turin’s e-strategy addresses two main action lines: on the one hand, the Municipality aims at improving the administration organisation and the citizens’ quality of life through e-government service supply; on the other, Turin Municipality supports the local economy development through actions addressing companies and offering opportunities for business, above all SMEs and start-ups.
The Turin Municipality has been investing on ICT-based services and infrastructures since the ‘70s, both for internal organization and for e-government services.
In several cases, the results’ excellence has been recognized and awarded, both on a national and on an international level.
Worth mentioning:
- 2005 Italian Web Awards, as excellent website in the “Public Administration” category;
- 2005 Italian Web Oscar, 1st position for the website in the “Municipalities capitals of the Province” category;
- 2004 annual “Digital Cities” CENSIS report, 1st position among Italian cities websites;
- 2004 eChallenges, for Technological infrastructure for the supply of payment services based on prepaid smartcards;
- 2003 Telecities-Deloitte “e-citizenship for all”;
- 2002 European City Award in Vienna;
- 2001 “From Policy to Practice” European Commission Award, about services directed to citizens;
- always been reported in 1st position among Italian e-gov services website since 1997.
